History

Pittwater Council was formed in May 1992 following a long battle by residents of the Northern portion of Warringah Shire Council, known as ‘A Riding’. The battle to form the first Pittwater Council was a long and remarkable one often described as ‘against all odds’. The story is best told in Robert Dunn’s personal memoir “Pittwater Uprising – a secessionist’s view” published in 2013 when the Council was then 20 years old. Digital copies of that memoir are available to Protect Pittwater members who log-in to the members only area of this site.
