Pittwater Community being silenced

In December 2025, Anna Maria Monticelli, Secretary of Protect Pittwater, applied and was denied 3 minutes speaking at the last Public Forum the Northern Beaches Council held as part of council meetings. Her address articulates these ongoing concerns of the Pittwater community, many of whom have dubbed the NBC just another version of Warringah Council, […]

Progress Report

JOIN US - Protect Pittwater's AGM 2026
Monday 23rd February
6:00pm Avalon Bowling Club

This is a great opportunity to hear updates, have a drink and chat with the committee, meet other members and help shape the way forward.

The lead-up to the end of the year was a very busy and rewarding time for the Protect Pittwater team. You may have seen us out and about engaging with locals, distributing our cards at Pittwater shopping centres, car boot sales, cultural festivals and sporting events.  And having countless conversations with local businesses. We’ve been extremely encouraged to see the strong level of community support and to hear just how many people are eager to see a Pittwater Council reinstated.

We are currently finalising our updated Summary Business Case -  a process undertaken every six months, while continuing to lobby the Minister and our Pittwater representative, Jacqui Scruby. The BC Summary will soon be available on our website for financial members only.

In February, PP will attend a forum organised by Ms Scruby that brings together all Pittwater community groups.

At this forum, we will be urging Ms Scruby to recognise that Pittwater deserves a council with both the power and the mandate to protect it. Pittwater is ecologically unique and cannot be governed by the same rules, priorities, and development settings that may suit other parts of the Northern Beaches or Sydney suburbs.

At present Pittwater remains under the NBC generic metropolitan planning regime, which will continue to be treated as development land not environmentally sensitive.   With development pressures from state government and NBC, Pittwater’s exceptional environment will continue to erode, along with its cultural and historical value, which is irreplaceable.  We will be stressing that if we are serious about protecting Pittwater for future generations, a demerger is not radica, it is urgent and responsible.  Pittwater historically can offer an outstanding heritage value to the nation as a whole.

Looking forward to seeing you at the AGM, and a big thank you for all your ongoing support.

Anna Maria Monticelli, Secretary
and your Protect Pittwater Committee

Protect Pittwater was established in 2017 by Pittwater residents dedicated to reinstating the former Pittwater Council. In 2016, despite being deemed Fit for Future, the coalition government forced Pittwater to amalgamate with Warringah and Manly Councils. Our core mission is to bring back Pittwater Council to ensure strong, independent representation for our community, achieve better fiscal results with less bureaucracy and foster the unique environmental and urban characteristics of Pittwater for residents and visitors alike. We are non-partisan.
